Storyboards

I found this website when I was looking up, different types of storyboards and also just to give me a few ideas what to do for unit 10.
www.storyboardsinc.com
On the site I looked at the advertising storyboards because the competition it self is a global warning advert.
What I found useful on the website is how the different artists design and layout their storyboard none of the storyboard are the same to each other and the drawing style is also different. They also don’t always use the arrows to show where the camera or characters are going to be because the drawing tells you every thing.

Got the colours and stuff

Got the stuff i need i think,

  • Clay like stuff for the eye patch. (I'll need to make the eye patch as light.)
  • Red and white paint for the blood and brains. (Going to mask off the areas i dont want to be sprayed first so that its dont mix witht the green.)
  • Glass spray paint for th over all colour. (Asked the lady she said that will do but am not sure so am going to test it out first.)
  • Black and white glass paints. (For the figures on the face and the chest area.)
  • Craft knife (Going to paint it silver and then put glue on it to look like blood.)
  • Silver spray paint. (For the helmet and then paint the lines in black.)

Short Evaluation – Angel

For this design, the only things that I will be paint are the eyes, lips and nose on the face.

The halo and the wings are going to make. The halo I may make it out of wire and then cover it with paper or some thing and then paint it gold to look like a golden halo.

The wings am going to make also with may be clay or make a mould, after I made the final wings I was thinking of carving feathers on to the mould of make individual feathers on the wings it self. I want them to be a cream or ivory colour. I’ll need to found out a way to stick the wings on with out them falling off.

Short Evaluation – Hill Munny

I was going with a simple design, as the other designs I’ve done are a bit difficult in design.

The over all colour I want is a dark blue and then use bright colours for the rest of the design. The stars and the moon, I want to use a bright colour so that it’s the first thing you see and then your catches the rest of the design.

The house I’ll need to use different tones of browns and reds to make the house look a bit real.

The grass I may use a sponge of some kind so that it fates at the end of the hill not having a solid colour.

The design on the back and front are the same so that the dark blue looks like the sky and that the house and the stars are 3D like.

Short Evaluation – Frank

I was going with the same theme as Operation Munny but in a Frankenstein design. The design looks a bit funny but after asking people what they though they said the head needs to be squared shape, so to do that I need to use clay or something to build up the high and shape to the head.

The colour really good so if I was to do this design I’ll need to get paint or spray similar to this colour.

The bolts look funny on the design but I going to get real bolts and stick them on to the Munny. I may have to drill 2 holes in the side of Munny’s head so that if I used glue you’ll be able to see where I glue it on.

The torch and the glasses I will have to make my self. I was going to make the glasses for Operation Munny any way so I could work with that design and make 2 lenses.

The skeleton going to be etched out and then I’ll paint over it and place random bits of glue to make it look like blood.

The folded piece of skin I am thinking of getting some glue or latex some thing that is flexible and looks a bit like skin. Then paint it green to blend with the over all base colour of Munny.

I am still going with the idea of using glue for the blood, but I may ask some one what else I could use instead.

Mini Evaluation - Tattoo/Smoking

In this design there isn't any over all base colour, it just white and then be random colours appear on the Munny, like the red hair and the earrings.
The tattoo, glasses, eyes and smoke are going to be painted on to the Munny whilst the rest of it will be made and placed on to the Munny.
The tattoos I looked at real ones and then changed it to fit with the design and idea for Munny I have planned. To get he tattoo right and looking the same I may draw a flat version and then cut it out and then use it as a rough stencil.
The hair I was thinking of using hair extensions and then poke it in to Munny head maybe, and then use glue to keep the hair up.
The cigarette I may use a real one and paint a bit of the top to look like its light up.

Mini Evaluation – Tribal Star

In this design I was inspired by a tattoo drawing I did a few months ago. I’ve changed most of the pattern; the only part that I kept on Munny was the star and arrows as it was the main forces of the design.

The lilac I used may have to be lighter because the colour I used on the colour version is too dark and almost takes over the design all I want is the tattoo design to stand out and the background colour just used to add colour to Munny.

I may redo this design because the pattern on the back doesn’t look very tribal like. The front I think looks fine and doesn’t look to messy or over done. Need to look at more tribal tattoo designs and change bits to make it my own.

The other version of the back of Munny looked great in my head but when I tried designing it, it went a bit wrong. Should of followed a design changing it on the way.

Mini Evaluation -Operation Munny

For my Munny, I am going with my drawing trademark (that includes doing some thing to the eye and giving my character random scars.)

I started with the eye patch and worked from there, building up to the final design. I scanned the design and then used Illustrator programme to draw the outlines of the character. Once I finished I used Photoshop to colour in Munny, I used layers so that I could easy control the different areas of the character. I also used the blur tool a lot, so that the colours wont too harsh on the character design.

The features on My Operation Munny, are that you can take off the cap to reveal the brain under it and the eye patch goggle can be taken off to reveal the other eye under it. The scalpel going to be covered in glue so that the blade will lower the risk to any one hurting themselves and also it works with the design of it looking like that its blood.

For the chest area, am thinking of craving the skeleton out. Before I decide to crave the chest out I’ll need to check the thick ness of Munny all-round, but in case if it’s too thin I could build out the chest.

The pink area where the brain is, I may have to change the colour because its too eye catching. As the cap is moveable am going to paint a brain under the cap.

The problem that I had with this design was the skin tone of Munny I wanted it to look good but also had a rough and dirty look to it. Also I wanted the bright red to show up and the brown and the red looked good together.

Pictoplasma

Pictoplasma is a huge animation catalogue, containing individual artists and small companies.

The owner peter Thaler Company doesn’t just contain one type of style but many from simple to graphic type animation.

They also setup festivals for short animation films, to looking at the pieces and adding your mini master piece to the a gallery wall, I mean gallery wall you can just pick up a pen and star drawing a little character.

Here’s a few artist that I found that I like:

Tubbypaws

Their work are done by using simple shapes and then adding details like eyes and clothes if the character is a person. I really like the animals that they have done because instead of doing what every one is doing for example drawing out a proper dog’s body shape they use a 3D shape and add figures to it so that you can make out it’s a dog and not some thing else.

Kirstin Trecek

Her pieces aren’t paper base but fabric. She makes plushes/ stuff toys. The first image of her work I saw looked really cute and horrible looking but I liked it and when I looked at her other pieces I was hooked.

The only reason I can give you why I like them soo much is becausae their strange looking but also cute at the same time.

Johnny W.Lee

His pieces are 3D plastasen models. Their not cute but their strange looking because a few of his pieces you cant tell what their suppose to be but their cute in their own way. The reason why I like these characters because its not what you see a lot, you may see it in creater comforts but they also make it look like what the creater got to look they don’t mess with the characters not like the characters by W.Lee the dog in it, the body has been changed to make it look sweeter and the figures on the person face has less details.

KidRobot

KidRobot is a company that designs and sells limited – edition art toys, posters, clothing, action figures and more. The items they sell are also deigned by other graphic and illustration designers.
The first time I heard of this company was when I was researching on Superdeux and also Neil gave me the side to help me with my Final Major Project. The work they have produced are cute with a hint of comedy / violent.
The company has also worked with Gorillaz and illustration-master Jamie Hewlett to produce these big vinyl figures, these are also limited edition item costing $220. The band it self am not a great fan of but that KidRobot produced these shows that they also work for other people and companies. The figures are actually like the music video characters to the final details. The characters don’t really have much shadow on near the eyes but its mainly one base colour working with the surrounding lights.
They produce the Dunny and Munny collection where they asked designers and normal people to make their own vinyl figure. Hen asking them to sent them pictures of the final piece to get a chance for their creation to be shown of to millions of vinyl fans.

Toy2R

The image “http://www.ichiban.com.tw/stores/ao/aboutUs/images/TOY2R.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
This company is base in Hong Kong, which crossed the border between design, art and graphics. The founder of Toy2R is Raymond Choy in 1995. The company was the first company to identify the potential and to focus on the designer toys, combining pop culture and art, developing Vinyl Toys for the commercial market.

Toy2R has grown with many new, upcoming and well know artists, combining forces to work on such projects like Qee, knuckle, OXOP and many others. Most of the works they do are Limited Editions meaning that people who buy the figures are more likely to be a one of a kind toy collector.

The image “http://www.myplasticheart.com/mph_imgs/toy2r/DIY_toyer.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

The most popular figure to date is the Qee line, the 2.5-inch key-chin figure, which provides 3D canvas for artists to discover their creative side.

In 2004 they first lunched a DO–it-yourself blank figure project with the DIY Qee. It was then modified for children in collaboration with the New York Children Boutiques, Yoyamart.

Superdeux

http://www.computerarts.co.uk/__data/assets/image/26585/arts107superdeux.jpg

This is a graphic/ animation company set up by Sebastien Roux and Stephane Huleux.

http://www.coolhunting.com/images/Superdeux-StereotypeSeries03.jpg

Their work contain cute and violent that some reason I really like. The figures they have created are the stereotype Series. All different in there own way, depending which series you get. The best ones I have to say that I really like is the “From Outer Space” their third series, because they’re bright coloured characters and also the cute little spaceship.

http://www.budnitz.com/images/specimages/s-itrst-1.jpg

The other stereotype series they have done are “be my slave” their first series they done. They’re cute but also a bit rude as you can see.

Their characters don’t really change only that their custom change with each series they do.

http://www.octane3.com/images/products/dunny-superdeux.jpg

Superdeux has created their own Dunny and Qee bear. The Dunny version are really good but I was disappointed when I saw the Qee bear because it don’t really have their usual trademark to it.

Dunny

KidRobot Company has created them. Both characters have been made for budding artist to create their very own. Dunny the rabbit version has already been done and you can see a few designs by artist like below.

Getting a familiar action hero and turning them in to a Dunny is a clever one because it makes the artist think of how they are going to fit and design the hero on to the figure. The extra accessories on the Dunny look very cool and cute just because it’s a smaller version of the custom.

The use of the metal grid makes the piece look a bit real in a way that it may actual move its eyes or move. The artist used the black version of Dunny because if he or she used the white version it may of taken them a long time to get to the final design and wont be soo harsh looking. It really looks rusted and old that another reason why I like it.

In this piece I like because of just using 2 colours to make it so interesting to look at. The characters catch your eyes and draw you to the biggest character on the face of Dunny. It also makes you want to look on the back just in case there was a change to the way the artist did the characters.

This one tells a story of some kind. The bright colours make the piece cheerful and cute at the same time. I don’t really like it because there aren’t that much detail the piece but it has a piece in my mind why I like it.

I really like this because the artist may of though hard to make to make this Dunny look different to the other artists. I think that artist may of gotten the 20” or 11” Dunny to do this piece because to place a little Dunny like that or he or she could of created their own Dunny to put in the middle or just got a smaller version.

DIY Qee

You can design your very own 8” Diy Qee and even have the chance to show your Qee to the rest of the world.

The rough idea of this does as follows:
DIY 8-inch Qee
DIY 8-inch Qee
DIY 8-inch Qee
DIY 8-inch Qee
DIY 8-inch Qee

The different types of characters you can get are:

DIY 8-inch Qee

The reason why I decided to research Qee is because they’re similar to the Dunny and Munny collection. They are also different in design and not just designed by people of Toy2R but different artists. Well know artist to young children can do them

.

They all have different art styles and there very own trademark that makes the Qee unique to each other.

Qee

The ones I really like are the bright and strange looking ones. These are just a few that I found. As you can see you can do any thing to them. Nice clean painted ones to weird looking ones.

The ones that people have already designed have given me a few ideas how wild I could go and simple I can be to create a wonderful Qee or Munny.

The ideas I have for my Munny are:

· Do one of the zodiac animals in a cartoon form.

· The Chinese Lucky Cat design.

· A tattoo design

· A cute and funny looking insert.

· Used two colours one dark and light.

A little red devil with a tail and a crown that I got with the mystery accessories.

Qee

http://www.hypebeast.com/images/Qee_Stormtrooper_1.jpg

A new type of toy/figure design. Linked with popular designers and illustrators like Superdeux and Coop, Acid and many others.

Qee’s appeared in 1997 in Hong Kong by Toy2R, toy designer. Constantly expanding with different size and variations on the original theme. Artist queue up to create his or her own take on the little chap.

You can have your very own Qee on your key ring or posing above your computers.
